Chase Bank Supports Refugee Financial Literacy

Newly-arrived clients from Cuba participate in a KRM financial literacy workshop sponsored by Chase Bank.

Providing refugees with the knowledge and confidence they need to access banking services and manage their personal finances on their own is an important first step on their path to self-sufficiency.  For the second year, Chase Bank has awarded Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) a $30,000 grant to support financial literacy education for refugees.  As a result, now all newly-arrived KRM clients participate in intensive practical workshops on using a checking account, bill paying, and household financial management.  In combination with World of Work orientations explaining payroll tax deductions and employee-sponsored medical insurance plans, these financial literacy classes ensure that refugees start out with the knowledge they need to make smart, informed choices as they work to build a secure economic future for their families.

URGENT!

Travel Near and Far is the theme of this year's Global Gourmet, KRM's annual fundraiser. If you have a Silent Auction service or item you would like to donate for this year's event, please contact Elizabeth Kaznak at 479-9180 x52.

KRM is currently in need of kitchen tables and chairs and dressers for newly-arriving refugee families. If you have such items to donate, contact Lee Welsh at 479-9180 ext. 14, lwelsh@kyrm.org
