We are exchange students from the University of Louisville who are interning at KRM from August to December 2005. We are participants of the North American Peace Ambassadors program partially funded by our federal governments through NAFTA. The paticipating universities, the University of Manitoba and l'Universite de Montreal (Canada), the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and the University of Louisville (USA), and Universidad de Colima and Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi (Mexico), exchange students to the other two countries to study North American conflict resolution and develop language skills.
Adam Reisacher
I entered the Peace Ambassador's program through the University of Manitoba in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I am a fourth-year Politcal Studies Honours student, and I intend to continue my studies at the graduate level, focusing on international peace and conflict resolution. My ultimate goal is to graduate from the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice's doctroal program on peace and conflict studies, the only one of its kind in Canada (and one of only 8 in the world).
I chose to intern at KRM to better undertand the process and difficulties refugees face even after they have been accepted into the United States. I hope, and believe, that this online database will make a difference for the refugees who are trying to gain independence in their new country.
Luis Antonio Cernas Diaz
A third year student of the Faculty of Law at the University of Colima in the state of my hometown Colima, Mexico. The North American Ambassador's program represented for me an opportunity to be close to the Common Law in the United States, assisting to court trials and having several conversation with the authorities in the Justice Court of Louisville, Kentucky in order to compare and evaluate it with the Civil Law in Mexico.
This programm allowed me to study classes of Political science such as International Relations, Law, Diplomacy and Power and Coping with Conflict Resolutions, a Harvard's Faculty of Law program which is the primary course in this program.
I chose to do my internship at KRM to understand the migration process in this agency, but my knowledge of english as my second language and my interest in the Cuban-Haiti Program allowed me to work as interpreter, translator of legal documents and attending the refugee's needs.
We would both like to thank Kentucky Refugee Ministries and its Executive Director Carol Young for their facilities and help in this endeavor.
We hope this effort will be helpful for all the refugees!
Hola! Gracias por accesar a la base de datos en línea del projecto para obtener la licencia de manejo que hemos desarrollado para Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) (Ministerios del Refugiado de Kentucky).
Nosotros somos estudiantes de intercambio de la Universidad de Louisville que estamos realizando un servicio social como internos, en esta institucion a partir del mes de Agosto a Diciembre de 2005. Somos participantes del Programa Norteamericano de los Embajadores de la Paz (North America Peace Ambassadors) financiado parcialmente por nuestros gobiernos federales a traves del Tratado de Libre Comercio TLC. Las universidades participantes son la Universidad de Manitoba y l'Universite de Montreal (Canadá), la Universidad de Wisconsin en Milwaukee y la Universidad de Louisville (los E.E.U.U.), y Universidad de Colima y Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi (México), en los que estudiantes de intercambio de estos países estudiamos la resolución de conflictos en Norteamerica (North American conflict resolution) y tambien buscamos desarrollarar nuestra habilidad en el idioma Ingles, Espanol y Frances.

Yo ingrese al Programa del Embajador de la Paz a través de la Universidad de Manitoba, en mi ciudad natal de Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canadá. Elegí realizar mi servicio social en KRM para entender mejor el proceso y las dificultades que hacen frente los refugiados incluso después de que los hayan aceptado en los Estados Unidos. Espero, y creo, que esta base de datos en línea marcara una diferencia para los refugiados que están intentando ganar independencia en su nuevo país.

El Programa Norteamericano del Embajador de la Paz representa para mí una oportunidad para estar cerca del sistema legal en los Estados Unidos, asistiendo a juicios civiles, penales, administrativos y teniendo varias conversaciones con autoridades en la Corte de la Justicia de Louisville, Kentucky. Esto me ha ayudado a comparar y evaluar el Derecho Anglosajon “Common Law”, con el sistema “Civil Law” de México.
Este programa me permitió estudiar clases de la ciencia Política tales como Relaciones Internacionales, Ley-Diplomacia y Poder y “Resolucion de Conflictos”, un programa de la facultad de Leyes de Harvard.
Elegí hacer mi servicio social en KRM para entender el proceso de migración en esta institucion. Pero mi conocimiento del inglés, como mi segunda lengua y mi interés en el programa de Cuba-Haiti, me permitieron trabajar como intérprete de refugiados, traductor de documentos jurídicos y atender a las necesidades del refugiado.
Ambos agradecemos a Kentucky Refugee Ministries (Ministerios del Refugiado de Kentucky), a su director ejecutivo Carol Young y a quienes colaboran en esta institucion por su apoyo y las facilidades para llevar a cabo este projecto.
